Empathic entrepreneurs are keenly aware of the way people are feeling. They tend to read body language and energy, and are highly sensitive and emotional. In essence, empaths are very in tune with themselves and others.
Many people see being “emotional” in business as a weakness, but I actually think it is a superpower! Being an empath myself, I’ve lived with lots of criticism over the years about needing to develop a “thicker skin” in order to climb the corporate ladder. Now that I’ve ditched the ladder for my own authentic path, I can see clearly that having empathy in business is actually an invaluable characteristic!
Do you think of yourself as an empath? Read on for 5 signs that you are an empathic entrepreneur.
1. You Focus on Developing Authentic Relationships
You invest a lot of time and energy in relationships and tend to view things that are purely transactional as “bad”. In order to feel like relationships are authentic, you need to get to know someone on a deeper level and understand their motivations and what makes them tick. You avoid small talk and surface level interactions like the plague!
2. You Want to Make a Difference
Your business is your calling. You started it because you truly want to make a difference in the world, and you care deeply about the customers you serve. You pour your heart and soul into everything you do, and you’ll never stray from the mission and your WHY for starting your business.
3. You Place People over Profit
Empaths know that it’s not just about making sales or achieving your bottom line. Your business has a bigger mission than profit and you are truly focused on serving your customers. You might even feel uncomfortable with revenue-generating activities and want to avoid being “salesy” at all costs. You’d rather sleep peacefully knowing you are making an impact and serving your advocates the right way, not the easy way.
4. You are an Introvert at Heart
Although creating connections is extremely important to you, you often thrive when you can be alone. Being around too many people for an extended period of time tends to be draining for you, and you need time alone to recharge. Although you may enjoy working in a team environment, you are often more productive on your own.
5. You are Very Sensitive to Negativity
Because you are so in tune with others emotions, you are highly affected by other people’s negativity. You tend to steer clear of personalities and situations that don’t jive with your own perspectives.
If you’ve resonated with some of the characteristics above, you are in the right place! Nicole Powell brand is a home for empathic entrepreneurs like you (and me!) who want to do business and marketing differently.
